AAFMAA Welcomes New Leadership in 2020

AAFMAA is pleased to announce several changes within its leadership team. The experience and dedication to the military community they bring to our organization will be key to AAFMAA’s continued growth and success, and to ensure your family’s financial future remains secure.


The AAFMAA Board of Directors appointed COL Carlos Perez Jr. (USA, Ret) Treasurer of AAFMAA. Carlos joined AAFMAA in 2015 as Assistant Secretary and has since held several other roles including Chief Operating Officer of AAFMAA’s life insurance business and Assistant Treasurer. In his new role as Treasurer, he will lead the management of over $1.3 billion in assets and position the organization for continued financial security and success.

Beyond his experience with AAFMAA, Carlos brings more than 26 years of active duty Army leadership as an Engineer Officer in several command and staff assignments, including battalion command in the United States and operational and combat deployments to Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. His expertise includes programming and budgeting, national security policy, and economic policy. He has also served on the economics faculty at the National Defense University's Eisenhower School and at the United States Military Academy at West Point and was the Professor of Military Science at the University of Hawaii. He holds a B.S. in Mathematical Economics from West Point, an M.B.A. from Stanford University, and an M.S. in National Resource Strategy from The Eisenhower School. Since joining AAFMAA, Carlos has completed the Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI®) program and earned the FLMI® professional designation.


LTC Jerry Quinn (USAR) joins AAFMAA as Chief Operating Officer and Secretary. Jerry joins us following several years with Wells Fargo, where he managed the Military Affairs Program, developing national relationships with the military community. As COO, he will oversee all operations of life insurance, including new business, policy services, Member benefits, and survivor assistance services.

Jerry brings more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry where he specialized in strategic programs and business development, and has over 34 years in the US Army, including continued service in the US Army Reserve. He has served in various command and staff assignments, including deployments in support of OIF, Desert Storm and Panama, and homeland defense missions in the United States. He currently serves as the Commander of the 316th Quartermaster Battalion in Oklahoma. Jerry holds a B.S. in Finance from Colorado State University and an M.B.A with an emphasis in Organizational Design from the University of Colorado.


Jeff Havener joins AAFMAA as President of AAFMAA Mortgage Services LLC (AMS). Jeff brings 30 years of financial industry experience to AMS, including real estate, consumer and commercial lending, and commercial operations. As President of AMS, he will lead the organization in executing its strategic vision and achieving its goals of ensuring more members of our military community have access to superior mortgage solutions.

Jeff most recently served as Chief Lending Officer for Heartland Credit Union in Hutchinson, Kansas where he was responsible for all of the lending programs. Previously, he was the Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer for Allegiance Credit Union in Oklahoma City. Jeff holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Linfield College.
