How to Enroll in TRICARE as a Veteran Family

2025-11-03

Active-duty servicemembers, Veterans, and their families are all eligible for healthcare plans under TRICARE, and for vision and dental plans under FEDVIP. If you and your family need to join, keep, or switch plans outside of certain lifecycle events (i.e., marriage, divorce, new child, death, etc.), you can make changes during the annual open enrollment period (generally, mid-November through mid-December). It’s the best time to make sure your healthcare benefits match any changes to your personal or family situation.

To discuss everything Veterans need to know about enrolling in TRICARE and other federal benefits, Sarah Roder, Armed Forces Mutual Director of Partnerships and Member Engagement, spoke with Amy Marotto, Armed Forces Mutual Membership Benefits Coordinator. Marotto is a military spouse stationed at Fort Hood, a U.S. Army post near Killeen, Texas, and she has a true passion for helping others.

To learn more about where and how Veterans and their families can enroll in or change their TRICARE healthcare plans, visit their dedicated page for TRICARE Open Season and watch the discussion below.
