Get involved with local businesses, community events, and community members as Blue Star Welcome Week helps ease the transition challenges of military families with opportunities and events for meaningful connections, September 27-October 5, 2025.
Blue Star Families (BSF) has impacted military families around the world since its founding in 2009 by a group of military spouses. Their efforts help empower servicemembers to thrive throughout military life, and that’s just one reason Armed Forces Mutual is proud to be a part of Blue Star Welcome Week, recognizing the approximately 600,000 active-duty and transitioning military families who move to new communities each year.
From September 27-October 5, you can spend the week along with BSF, focusing on helping military and Veteran families in your community get to know it better, meet neighbors, and gain a sense of belonging in their new homes. Military-affiliated organizations around the world also get involved to help welcome new military families to the local neighborhood. If your family has recently moved to a new area, be sure to attend a Welcome Week event, such as free museum entry days or tours, a Scavenger Hunt, children’s and music events like the Worldwide Day of Play, and much more that may be happening in your local area.
If you live in the Washington, DC area, make plans to join Armed Forces Mutual at the Fort Myer-Henderson Hall Commissary on October 3, from 10am-2pm, for Conversation and Coffee. You’ll learn about supporting your financial readiness and take home some of our swag.

About Blue Star Families
Blue Star Families was founded by military spouses in 2009 to empower military families to thrive by connecting them with local community individuals and organizations for mutual support. Their groundbreaking research raised the nation's awareness of the unique challenges of military family life and, with the help of neighbors across the country, BSF helps families overcome the isolation and alienation of frequent moves, deployments, and disconnections through a variety of innovative programs. There are more than 150,000 members in the Blue Star Families network, including those in chapters and communities all over the world, whose efforts touch more than 1.5 million military family members every year.
