Military Beneficiary Designation Services

Happy bride and groom When an AAFMAA member passes away, the death benefit of their life insurance policy is available to be paid to the surviving beneficiaries. If shares are designated, any unpaid shares to deceased beneficiaries will be divided among surviving entitled beneficiaries unless otherwise stipulated.

No payment can go to any contingent beneficiaries unless all primary beneficiaries are deceased. If no beneficiaries are living at the insured’s death, the benefit will be paid to the owner or estate of owner.

Important Details

  • Only the policy owner can designate and change beneficiaries
  • Owners can designate any individual(s), legal entity or estate as beneficiary
  • Owners may change the beneficiary designation at any time prior to the death of the insured without consent or knowledge of the beneficiaries
  • If the prior designation contains an irrevocable beneficiary, that beneficiary must approve the change in writing
  • In cases of a court order, an amended court order must accompany the AAFMAA Beneficiary Designation form

If you would like to change your beneficiary, just download the form under the Decision Center tab choose Downloadable AAFMAA Forms. Print the Beneficiary Designation Form, complete, sign, date and either email it to [email protected], fax to 1-888-210-8201 or mail to 1856 Old Reston Avenue, Suite 200, Reston, VA 20190.
