Making the Most Out of Your VA Home Loan

2024-02-28

If you are a current or former servicemember looking to buy a home and want to get the best mortgage, a Veterans Administration (VA) Home Loan may be a good option. VA Home Loans require 0% down and, depending on your status, the funding fee could be waived, making them more affordable. To be eligible for a VA Home Loan, you must have either 90 days of wartime active service or 180 days of peacetime active service, or six years of service in the National Guard or Reserves. You are also eligible if you are the spouse of a servicemember who died during service or from a service-related disability.

To discuss the details of VA Home Loans and how to take full advantage of them, Sarah Bumgardner, AAFMAA Director of Partnerships and Member Engagement, spoke with Kevin Crooks, Jr., AAFMAA Mortgage Services LLC (AMS) Business Development Manager. With more than 15 years of experience in the mortgage industry, Crooks has worked with hundreds of families to help them buy a home. The son of a Marine Corps Warrant Officer, Crooks understands firsthand the commitment and sacrifice made by military families. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Tulane University.
