SGLI Online Enrollment System (SOES)

2024-11-06

Managing your Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) has become significantly easier since the introduction of the SGLI Online Enrollment System (SOES). Gone are the days of visiting your Personnel Office to complete paper forms for SGLI changes. Now, servicemembers can use SOES to:

  • Modify SGLI and Family SGLI coverage
  • Add or update beneficiary designations
  • Access their SGLI Coverage Certificate

How to Access SOES

Accessing SOES is straightforward through the milConnect Web portal. You'll need either your Common Access Card (CAC) or DoD Self-Service Logon to sign in. The system is available to all servicemembers with full-time SGLI coverage, including active duty personnel and Reserve and Guard members who drill at least 12 times a year.

Navigating SOES: A Step-by-Step Guide

To update your coverage:

  1. Log in to milConnect
  2. Navigate to the "Benefits" tab
  3. Select "Life Insurance"
  4. Follow the prompts

The Importance of Regular SGLI Review

SOES provides a convenient way to keep your SGLI information current as your life circumstances change. However, it's important to regularly assess whether your SGLI coverage meets your family's evolving needs. As your responsibilities grow — perhaps with a new family member or a mortgage — you may want to consider supplementing your SGLI with additional term life insurance policies.

Supplementing Your SGLI Coverage

AAFMAA continues to offer competitive rates on Term Life Insurance policies that can provide extended coverage beyond your time in service. All AAFMAA policies come with their exclusive Survivor Assistance, ensuring your beneficiaries receive all the military and government benefits they're entitled to.

By leveraging SOES and staying informed about your life insurance options, you can make confident decisions about protecting what matters most to you and your family.
