Get to Know Coast Guard Mutual Assistance

2023-08-15

Since starting operations in 1924, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (CGMA) has promoted the financial stability and well-being of the Coast Guard community. Similar to AAFMAA, CGMA offers financial products and services. Theirs include interest-free loans, grants, and financial counseling.

To discuss the work being done to support Coast Guard members and affiliates, Sarah Bumgardner, AAFMAA Director of Partnerships and Member Engagement, spoke with Jason K. Wong, Chief Operating Officer at Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, about CGMA’s mission to support financial resilience. Before becoming COO, Wong served with the Coast Guard for 30 years, giving him deep experience with the needs of CGMA’s membership.

CGMA focuses its efforts on three areas that may affect military members and their families: disaster assistance, day-to-day assistance, and education programs. To learn more on the organization’s mission and how it works, watch their conversation below.
