Don't wait to protect your children: Insure them before they turn 24

2015-07-15

By law, AAFMAA can only provide life insurance to current servicemembers, military retirees, separated veterans and their family members. Family members include dependents up to the age of 23, so once your "kids" hit their 24th birthday, they are no longer eligible for an AAFMAA life insurance policy. So, it is important to take advantage of this opportunity for your child right away.

Life insurance is more cost effective when you buy it earlier in life. For just $2.95 per month, you can set up your adult children with just $50,000 of term protection. Or, they could get the permanent protection of $20,000 of whole-life coverage for less than $12 per month (subject to underwriting). In addition to life insurance protection, you will secure for your children their eligibility to purchase additional AAFMAA products and services in the future, regardless of whether or not they serve in the military.
