Our Privacy Policy
At AAFMAA (referred to as “we, our, us”), the interests of our members and their families always come first. The confidentiality of your personal information is paramount. AAFMAA maintains high standards to safeguard your personal information at all times, and will remain vigilant in continuing to do so. On your behalf, AAFMAA contracts with companies not in our AAFMAA family (“non-affiliated third parties”) to deliver grandfathered Living Services to members and their families and Survivor Assistance Services to surviving widows/widowers. We never rent or sell any personal information to marketers outside AAFMAA. We collect and share certain personal information with select non-affiliated companies as required by law or as permitted for the purposes of providing and administering insurance products and services. The recipients of this information are required to protect its confidentiality and security.

Q: What information do we collect from and about you?
A:

Depending on the nature of our relationship, we obtain information required to underwrite, provide and administer insurance products, service member needs and meet legal requirements. Including:

  • Military title, name, address, Social Security number, telephone number, email, and key service dates such as TAFMSD, BASD, or retirement. Consumer report showing your credit worthiness and credit history, and/or FICO scores from a consumer reporting agency. (This information is obtained from Career Assistance Program (CAP) loan holders only, NOT from members with policy loans.)

Q: 2. How do we protect the confidentiality and security of your non-public, personal information?
A:
  • Maintenance and monitoring of physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards, updating as needed to guard personal information.
  • Security and encryption methods to help prevent data breaches and unauthorized disclosure of personal information.
  • Restricted access to personal information to necessary personnel only. Employees are held accountable for adhering to privacy policies and procedures.

Q: What information do we disclose to nonaffiliated third parties about you?
A: AAFMAA procures various services from non-affiliated third parties to provide Living Services and Survivor Assistance Services. Protecting the personal information of our members is an important consideration in our relationship with them. Information disclosed may include spouse’s and children’s names, contact information, birth dates, Social Security numbers, SBP election, VA claims, DD214 record information, and information to help file claims on other insurance policies for the deceased. All service providers must agree to comply with stringent security and privacy policies and procedures. For CAP loans, we may disclose personal information to reputable consumer reporting or collection agencies. AAFMAA may also disclose personal informa¬tion to government agencies and regulatory organizations as permitted or required by law.

Q: What information do we disclose about former members and to whom?
A: AAFMAA may disclose some or all of a former member’s personal information to government agencies, consultants and self-regulatory organizations when permitted or required by law, such as required to file abandoned property reports, compliance with subpoenas and other official governmental requests. We may report the payment history of CAP loans to consumer reporting agencies.

Q: What medical information do we disclose and to whom?
A: Medical information is disclosed only to those needing your information to process insurance applications or claims. IAW normal insurance under¬writing, we provide necessary information and test results to a paramedic and/or physician. Medical information is NEVER provided to any centralized information storage bureau.
